Special Olympics MD– Montgomery County (SOMO) offers 21 sports and leadership programs during our 4 sport seasons each year! Our programs reach out to people with intellectual disabilities to give them an opportunity to have sports in their lives—and all of the gifts that participation in sports brings.

Athletes in our new YAP—Young Athletes Program are ages 2-7. Athletes in all of our sports programs are ages 8 and older. Our training and competition opportunities are free to our athletes because of the generosity of friends, families and our community. We do not receive any state, local, or federal funding. Our Montgomery County Management Team is an all-volunteer group of very dedicated parents, coaches and community members tasked with developing, and funding all of the elements of our sports and leadership programs: facilities, equipment, uniforms, volunteers, awards, transportation, travel competition, administration and implementation!

Purchasing the SOMO Gift envelope is a simple way for you and your family and friends to remember, honor or celebrate a special person or event any time of the year by using your credit card! A special acknowledgment will be sent to the recipient of the honor. We will feature a special box in editions of the Relay to announce the SOMO gifts and honorees. Celebrate our athletes and celebrate our friends and families!
