Season: Winter (December to March)
Overview: Basketball is SOMO’s most popular sport, with many teams and hundreds of athletes across 7 different basketball programs. We have basketball programs for all ages – toddlers, elementary, middle school, high school and adults – and ALL abilities. We have both competitive and recreational programs.
Recreational programs focus on player development and playing games against other SOMO teams and athletes. Most SOMO recreational basketball programs include Unified Partners who join the games to assist with player development. There are no State Games and no out-of-county travel required.
Competitive programs hold practices where athletes prepare for competition against other teams at Qualifiers and at State Games. Attendance at qualifiers and at State Games often requires travel out-of-county. Athletes on competitive teams are at many levels of ability.

Volunteers Needed: Given the size of our Basketball program, we are always on the lookout for new volunteers to serve as Team Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Unified Partners. SOMO volunteers qualify for SSL hours. Contact the Head Coach for each program for the most up-to-date information on that program’s volunteer needs.
