Athlete Assessment & Placement (Try-Outs):  Athlete selection will take place at the first practice in January. New and returning athletes are invited to participate in this session. Athletes qualify for our Advanced program based on demonstrated basketball skills.

Upon assessment completion, those athletes not selected for one of the two advanced teams at PCC will be referred to the intermediate basketball program and Barrie School.

Coaches place athletes on teams based on ability. Coaches also consider an athlete’s past record of strong commitment to the sport when making team assignments.

Roster Spots are Limited:  SOMO has a limited number of courts and coaches to support our Advanced Basketball program. Roster size will likely be capped at approximately 10 athletes per team (20 total). This will help to ensure that participating athletes has an opportunity for meaningful involvement. Athletes who have registered online before year-end, whose medicals are current through the end of State Games, and who attend the first practice, receive first priority when assigning limited roster slots.

Equipment: SOMO provides all equipment. Athletes should bring bottled water (no sports drinks or sodas, please) to each practice and event.

Uniform Requirements: During practices, athletes are responsible for their own athletic apparel (shorts and gym shirt) and basketball shoes (high-tops are recommended). SOMO provides team uniforms for use during competitions.
