Equipment:

SOMO provides all equipment.

Uniform Requirements:

Athletes should wear appropriate athletic apparel and tennis shoes. SOMO provides basketball pinnies that athletes can wear over their clothes during training and competition.

Practice Overview:

Location: Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church Gym, 3630 Quesada Street, NW, Washington, DC 20015

Timing: Practice occurs on Saturdays during January and February.

Activities: The emphasis is on recreational play, much like a pick-up basketball game. Teams are formed at each practice based on the athletes and Unified Partners who attend that day.

Exhibition Game Celebration:

Each season ends with an Exhibition Game Celebration. At the celebration, we recognize our athletes and volunteers. There is music, a parade of athletes, refreshments and often an appearance by SOMO’s Joy Cheerleading Team.

Participation in Other SOMO Sports:

Basketball players can participate in other SOMO sports as long as the athlete can maintain full practice participation in all of their sports.

Athlete Participation Contract:

Not Required

Volunteers:

Our largest volunteer need is for Unified Partners who can work and play with the athletes. Volunteers at SOMO events are eligible for SSL hours. There are also volunteer opportunities for Coaches. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to the program’s Head Coaches at the email address at the top of the page.
