TopGolf

Spring Season: April through June

Fall Season: September through October

Email: TopGolf@somdmontgomery.org

Overview:

TopGolf is a sports entertainment experience that combines elements of golf with technology and social interaction. Players hit microchipped golf balls from climate-controlled bays toward a series of large, illuminated targets on an outdoor driving range. Each shot is tracked electronically, and points are awarded based on accuracy and distance, making the game competitive and engaging. Unlike traditional golf, TopGolf does not require prior skill or formal attire, and it is designed to be accessible to all ages and abilities. Games at TopGolf are played in timed sessions rather than on courses, and each bay can accommodate up to six players. This format emphasizes fun and social interaction while still offering opportunities to practice golf skills.

Athlete & Unified Partner Participation:

Unified Partners: We encourage family members or staff accompanying athletes to TopGolf to play the game as well. There is a limit of one family member or staff per athlete.  Interested family members or staff need to register as SOMO volunteers, then sign up as Unified Partners for the upcoming TopGolf season. See the Volunteers tab in the menu for details on becoming a SOMO volunteer.

Athletes: We only accept athletes who are able, willing, and excited to participate and learn the game of golf. We can teach anyone how to swing a club; however, we need to ensure that athletes want to be there, participate, and are actively engaged in the process. We don’t want situations where the Unified Partner is an enthusiastic player while the athlete is uninterested.

Equipment:

TopGolf provides all the equipment needed to play. However, Athletes are free to bring their own clubs if they like, but it is not required. We also recommend that athletes bring a golf glove if they have one.

Uniform Requirements:

While there are no uniform requirements for TopGolf at this time, we strongly encourage athletes to wear SOMO attire. We also ask that Athletes and volunteers dress neatly. A collared shirt is preferred.

Practice Overview:

Location: TopGolf Germantown (20101 Century Blvd, Germantown, MD 20874)

Timing: Mondays from 3:00 to 5:00 PM

Activities: While TopGolf offers many interactive games at its facilities, Special Olympics only recognizes the standard TopGolf game for competition. At each practice, every athlete completes one TopGolf game. After that first game, athletes in each bay collectively choose any game to play together.

Qualifiers:

There are no TopGolf Qualifiers in Maryland.

State Competition:

There is no State Competition for TopGolf.

Participation in Other SOMO Sports:

An Athlete can participate in other SOMO sports as long as it does not impact their TopGolf participation.
