VOLUNTEERS MAKE SPECIAL OLYMPICS POSSIBLE!

HELP US MAKE IT HAPPEN…

Looking for a place to volunteer? Want to feel the joy of watching athletes with intellectual disabilities work hard and excel in various sports? Need to earn Community Service Requirements for high school graduation or church requirements? Whether you are looking for a few hours a week or month or a more significant commitment, whether you can help with administrative/office work, fundraising, or want to work hands-on coaching the athletes, Special Olympics Montgomery County welcomes you!

Individual volunteers must be at least 16 years old or a freshman in high school. (A few volunteer opportunities are available for younger volunteers when participating with our “Youth Sports Programs” and under adult supervision.

Although most Special Olympics volunteers must be 16-years of age or older, Special Olympics Montgomery welcomes Middle School and High School volunteers to participate as Buddies or Unified Partners in our youth sports programs. The Unified Sports concept is a Special Olympics concept that pairs athletes with and without disabilities to train and compete together as teammates.

We have found that the best “fit” for youth volunteers is a sports program with Special Olympic athletes the same age or younger. To that end, we encourage youth volunteers to look for a sport that interests them and has a youth component.

For example, during our Winter season, we have a Youth Basketball Program, and in the Fall, we have a Youth Soccer Program. Both offer training and competition at the Elementary and Middle School levels.  We ask that you commit to attending most of the practices to provide the continuity needed for a valuable experience for you and our athletes.

We also have training for High School age athletes in both 3v3 (half-court) and 5v5 (full court) basketball and welcome volunteers to train with those athletes as they prepare for Regional and State level competition.  Details about all the team training times and dates are on our website.
