Pickleball Outdoor Recreational

Overview: 

Pickleball is a paddle Sport using a composite paddle to hit a special perforated ball, played on a court smaller than a standard tennis court. Pickleball can be played in singles or doubles.

Training consists of basic pickleball skills with the goal of giving each player the skills that they can use throughout life.

Season Dates & TimesPractices: Sunday mornings starting April 28, 2024, to June 2, 2024. 2 sessions 9:30 to 10:15 and 10:30 to 11:15 Coaches will assign athletes to sessions depending on the number of athletes and available volunteers.

There are no Qualifiers or State Competition for this sport.
Medical & Volunteer
Expiration Date
The expiration date on an athlete’s Medical form, or a Volunteer’s certification, must be after June 2, 2024

Equipment:

SOMO will provide paddles and balls. Athletes should wear tennis shoes and appropriate athletic attire. Athletes should bring a water bottle to practice.

Uniform Requirements:

Athletes should wear their yellow Special Olympics shirts to practice.

Practice Overview:

  • Location: Aspen Hill Club. 14501 Homecrest Road, Silver Spring MD 20906. The court location will be provided closer to the first practice. Watch your emails for more information.
  • The Coach will assign athletes to practice sessions depending on athlete and volunteer numbers. There is no practice Memorial Day weekend. Athletes should arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to check in and be prepared to warmup.
  • Activities: Practice will begin with warmups, then be broken into groups for skills and game play.

There are no Qualifiers for this sport.

State Competition:

There is no State Competition for this sport.

Participation in other SOMO Sports:

Athletes can participate in other SOMO sports so long as the athlete can maintain full practice participation in all of their sports.
