Special Olympics Maryland – Montgomery County (SOMO) offers year-round training and competition in 23 Olympic-type sports. Programs serve nearly all ability levels and are always free to the athletes.
Eligible athletes are all children and adults, at least eight years old, with intellectual disabilities, a cognitive delay, or a closely related developmental disability. Eligible athletes have functional limitations in both general learning and in adaptive skills.
Children under the age of 8 years old may participate in our Young Athletes Programs designed to meet the needs of children ages 3-7.
During competitions, Special Olympic athletes are grouped according to ability level, age, and gender.
Soccer – August 1 to October 31
The TOPSoccer program has moved to the Montgomery County Department of Recreation.
Special Olympics will no longer participate in MSI’s TOPSoccer program.
